The Birthday

For my birthday this year I told Eddie that I wanted a weekend away. He thought that was very reasonable and so I arranged it. I headed to St. George and met 2 of my sisters, my mom, and my sister in law. We stayed in a lovely hotel room, shopped, ate, watched a movie, and played games into the late hours of the morning. It really was wonderful and exactly what I needed. I was able to let off some steam and forget about all the stress and projects and to do lists waiting for me back at home. It was a perfect weekend, except for the fact that it went by way too fast.My mom is so cute. She gave me the best gift of all... the gift of laughter. We ate my birthday lunch at Chuck-a-rama which holds some dear memories for all of us, and my mom gave me my birthday present while we were eating there. Because it is a situation where "you had to be there" to get it, I won't go into details but let's just say the whole restaurant was staring as me and the girls laughed so long and hard and LOUD that I thought I was going to pass out.
I brought an assortment of goodies so we could stay in the hotel room and play games and visit. This was probably the best part. We played Scattergories one night which is my favorite board game. Then we talked until 2 a.m.!!! I can't even remember the last time I stayed up like that. It was amazing.
We also ate at Larsen's Frost Top which holds so many memories for us growing up. We listened to some really outdated music (think N'Sync) on the Juke box and my sisters got embarrassed while I got up and danced to it. Totally awesome, dude! My sister bought me this awesome shirt while we were there. Love it!
It was great to be able to get away from everything and not have to worry about kids or anything else. Thanks to my sweet hubby who watched the kids and even had the house clean when I came home.
I've always loved birthdays. They are special and I've always tried to make my kids birthdays memorable and unique. And even though I'm on the other side of 30 now (oh wow!), I still enjoy them. I make it a day where I choose to forget all the pressing matters of life, and do exactly what I want to do. Just for one day. It makes the day feel significant and extraordinary, and I'm never disappointed by a birthday. I also like to think back on the year and ponder the events that took place and the growth that I've had. This always makes me happier about the actual number of the birthday because I realize that only through years of struggle and learning and trials and events can I gain wisdom and knowledge and become closer to the person I am striving to be. On my actual birth day, which was on a Monday, I decided I wanted to read the entire day. And so I did. I finished a 475 page book in one day. It was awesome.
